Position Summary

The Associate Cisco Hardware Technician is responsible for assisting the Lead Cisco Technician with sales order processing, prioritization and facilitation of the audit process for enterprise hardware equipment at World Data Products, Inc. This person will also primarily be responsible for building, configuring and installing Cisco network hardware equipment to customer specification, auditing, testing, troubleshooting, receiving, categorization, documentation and packaging of equipment while achieving department goals in a high-volume, time sensitive environment. The Associate Cisco Hardware Technician reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sales Order Processing Responsibilities (approximately 60% of the position)
  • Configure and prepare equipment per customer specification.
  • Install software, modules, boards and memory per customer specification.
  • Check functionality of newly installed parts to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Test and troubleshoot to identify problems.
  • Ensure all parts that are allocated to work orders are used. Obtain approval from Sales Representatives for all part re-allocations.
  • Schedule system orders with and communicate scheduling conflicts to the Vice President of Operations and Director of Sales to ensure timely order prioritization.
  • Ensure all products meet WDPI's Quality Standards. Conduct final quality assurance on all orders including painting and cleaning equipment prior to shipping.
  • Conduct new hire technical training for technicians and sales representatives.
  • Provide technical consulting in the pre-sales process to support the Sales team. Communicate potential customer upgrades if appropriate.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external clients.
  • Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting to internal and external clients.
  • Process Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) to meet department objectives.
  • Provide input and feedback on department process and procedure improvements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with WDPI's Safety Standards.
  • Attend team/company meetings and trainings.
Audit Center Responsibilities (approximately 40% of the position)
  • Receive and categorize all incoming server, storage and network equipment and parts into inventory system according to company standards.
  • Inspect, test, audit and clear configurations from incoming equipment.
  • Conduct breakdown of equipment per sales orders.
  • Communicate purchase order problems with internal customers (sales reps, sales brokers, lead techs and/or sales support) and Operations Director.
  • Prepare hardware equipment for processing, including cleaning, bagging and tagging.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Work with Operations team members to ensure department goals are met/exceeded.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy as it relates to company standards.
  • Provide input and feedback on department process and procedure improvements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with WDPI's Safety Standards.
  • Attend team/company meetings and trainings.
  • Associate's degree in Networking, Computers or Electronics or a High school diploma/equivalency with 1+ year of computer hardware/software related experience.
  • 1+ year(s) working with Cisco hardware.
  • CompTIA A+ certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong attention to details and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/orders independently with precise detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook Excel.
  • Ability to enter data into an ERP system.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Networking, Computers or Electronics or a High school diploma/equivalency with 1+ year of computer hardware/software related experience.
  • 1+ year(s) working with Cisco hardware.
  • CompTIA A+ certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong attention to details and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/orders independently with precise detail and follow-through.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook Excel.
  • Ability to enter data into an ERP system.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Sun, Cisco, IBM, HP, Compaq or Dell servers, storage and/or network hardware preferred.
Physical Job Requirements:
  • Ability to reach with arms and hands, stoop, kneel, bend, twist and crouch to inspect test equipment.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. frequently to lift equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work-related information.
  • Ability to take work direction.
Work Environment:
  • Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week schedule during the hours of Monday-Friday 8:00 6:30 pm.
  • Ability to work overtime as required by business needs.
  • Ability to work in an ambient warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work productively with frequent distractions/interruptions.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team-oriented workplace.
