Position responsible for preparing and delivering civil process documents, serving named individuals/entities, and distributing documents to the appropriate parties. Duties include but are not limited to, enforcing court orders; updating records of disposition; tracing and locating individuals to be served; seizing and selling real and personal property according to statute; and testifying in court when required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Shifts may vary. Civil Technician may be required to work 8 or 10-hour shifts, including weekends and or holidays.
$3,217.35 - $4,104.51 per month for a 173.33 hour work month. Salary normally starts at the first step. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This is a union represented position. Position is available immediately.
High school diploma or GED equivalent with three years of experience working in a clerical or administrative support capacity. Must demonstrate the ability to interpret and follow instructions.
Preferred qualifications include an Associate's degree in criminal justice, psychology, or related field; knowledge of administrative procedures, civil laws, and ordinances and or prior experience in public or customer service.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, sometimes in hostile, abusive, or threatening environments;
To cope with stressful situations firmly, tactfully, and with respect to individual rights;
To establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and with citizens from varied racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds;
To operate a computer, two-way radio, and a variety of general office equipment.
Must be willing and able to operate a County vehicle and drive in congested traffic and adverse weather conditions.
Application and Selection Process:
Candidates are required to meet certain standards in order to be considered for hire by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. Applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications and a preliminary driving history will be conducted. A skills test may be administered. Selected candidates must pass an initial panel interview.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon an acceptable and verifiable driver's license and driving history.
Final candidate selected for position will be required to pass a thorough background and criminal history investigation, a physical examination, and a drug screening.
