The Clinical Training Specialist is responsible for leading, teaching, demonstrating, and supporting Evidence Based Practices (EBPs) throughout the SBHG Programs. This entails obtaining master proficiency in EBPs, which may include, as assigned, several of the following program practices: EQUIP Group and/or Aggression Replacement Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Community Principles of PsychoSocial Rehab, Wraparound and System of Care, Functional Family Therapy, Clinical Pathways for ODD Youth, and Principles of Therapeutic Milieu. Functions include leading and developing key groups and program practices to implement, support, and coach ongoing program development in the above EBP practices. Close liaisons with program Administrators, Training Directors, and Clinical Directors is essential to assure successful team support and development.


1. Teaching, training and ongoing coaching of EBP’s throughout SBHG programs.
2. Provision of in-services, coaching direction, task lists, and specific curriculum to support EBP development and excellence.
3. Development of associated Policies and Procedures to support EBP program development.
4. Monitoring the implementation of EBP programs within the SBHG programs. Preparing memoranda, progress notes, and brief reports to document this.
5. Supervising EBP service delivery of program line staff via coaching, modeling, and ongoing participation in EBP program delivery.
6. Interfacing with program administrators, clinical directors, and program staff to facilitate the implementation of EBP practices, policies and procedures
7. Building and maintaining liaisons with various community resources for the purposes of improving EBP in the SBHG programs, such as the CIMH, academic and other professional institutions.
8. Assists the Director of Clinical Training with other training, orientation, and staff development activities.
9. May fill in as a Group Services Dep’t Head at a specific site in the event of a vacancy or start-up.
10. Interfacing with Mental Health facility administrators and staff to facilitate the implementation of clinical policies and procedures
11. Identifying areas where improvements are needed in clinical policies and procedures, and documenting this through memoranda and notes.
12. Building and maintaining liaisons with various community resources for the purposes of improving clinical programs in the Mental Health facilities.
13. Assists the program Directors of Staff Development in ensuring that orientation, annual education, in-service training and continuing education for clinical staff members will meet regulatory compliance as well as lead to program and staff growth.
14. Represents SBHG and the clinical programs to county agencies, SBHG Directors and the community as needed
15. Develop and maintain standardized group facilitation and training workshop curriculums which include a master set of training lesson plans, facilitator and participant guides and supportive training materials.

Master's degree in Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Rehabilitation Therapy or equivalent required.

Five (5) years direct service experience with seriously mentally disordered patients.
One (1) year experience in education or providing clinical training in-services and or programs.

License or Certification:
CA license appropriate to the profession (RN, Ph.D., LCSW, MFT, etc.) strongly preferred.
Valid CA Driver's license and clear current DMV printout.

Specialized Skills:

  • Expertise in Group Counseling of SED youth and SPMI Adults, inc. family counseling.
  • Advanced knowledge of EBP Practices.
  • Demonstrated skill in presentation, education or staff training skills.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, County and local regulations, especially, Title 22, Title 9, and Patients Rights, OBRA.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to physically perform and train others in containment, escort, and restraint procedures with assaultive residents.
  • Ability to physically assist in lifting and carrying assaultive residents weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Ability to visually and audibly assess resident's behavior and needs.
