Performs clerical and receptionist duties such as answering the telephone, scheduling appointments and stocking office supplies and forms. Carries out clinical procedures appropriate to scope of practice under the supervision of an RN, midlevel practitioner or physician. Participates in patient care activities by following the individual visit plan and provides quality care. Coordinates and supports the operations of the BBAHC case management program. As a patient advocate, responds to and interviews individuals who have questions about BBAHC services and works to resolve issues of access.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Must be fluent in English. Yupik preferred.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Must demonstrate good organizational skills and familiarity with general business office practice including maintaining filing system, word processing and general computer skills.
Must be able to work independently. Good attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.
Ability to deal with members of the public in a professional, courteous and tactful manner according to BBAHC mission statement.
Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Must demonstrate the ability to follow directions and comply with BBAHC organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span (e.g., pediatric/adult/geriatric).
Must be able to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the assigned unit’s policies and procedures.
Collect and record patient health data in electronic health record.
Collaborate as part of an integrated health care team to establish and carry out an individual patient’s plan of care.
Schedule patient appointments, procedures, travel and lodging using appropriate BBAHC computer software programs.
Assist provider with direct patient care as needed, functioning as part of integrated health care team within scope of practice.
Be available for emergency call on a rotating basis.
Provides cross-coverage for clinical assistants assigned to other health care teams and/or the Health Unit Coordinator as needed.
Screens patients by assessing vital signs, completing health risk screens, follows visit plan to collect necessary information.
Collaborate with medical care provider on patient needs for lab work, x-ray and EKG. Collects and transports patient specimens to the appropriate department.
Performs EKG, Accucheck, and dipstick urine analysis independently after having written approval of competency by the Outpatient or Inpatient manager. Assists with preparation of out patient exam rooms to provide a safe and clean environment for each patient.
Performs daily restocking of exam room supplies.
Assists with patient transfers to other areas as needed.
Assist Outpatient or Inpatient staff with complicated treatment or diagnostic procedures, i.e., pelvic, flexible sigmoid’s, EGD’s, sterile procedures. Act as a patient chaperon.
Participates in patient care conferences, Outpatient meetings and in-service training activities.
Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA/HITECH. Reports any confidentiality breach as soon as recognized.
Performs other duties as assigned.
