The Clinical Coordinator will work in a Columbia-Presbyterian Oncology teaching practice centering on the management of patients with mesothelioma, sarcoma and peritoneal surface malignancies, many of whom are enrolled in clinical trials. Will learn to independently evaluate and record patient histories and physical examinations as needed; see patients in follow-up in the outpatient and (when appropriately certified) in the inpatient hospital setting; access mediports and help to administer chemotherapy in the outpatient setting; comprehend and take necessary initial action to mitigate complications of chemotherapy; and occasionally obtain patient blood samples and operating-room tissues samples for research. This individual would see and interact with most patients in the clinic as part of a team, and by follow-up phone and e-mail, to familiarize them with the complications of their treatment, to deal with questions and complications, and to offer patients and caregivers needed emotional and logistical support. Works closely with dedicated Clinical Trials coordinators, and with research assistants and laboratory technicians in carrying out research projects. Continued professional development and participation in different types of innovative investigator initiated clinical trials, involvement in collaboration with investigators in other departments, and attendance and presentations at scientific meetings is desired and encouraged. Perform additional duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of experience, plus a current New York State RN license.
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Trained/experienced in managing patients with various medical and oncologic problems. Demonstrated ability to manage Oncologic emergencies and place IV lines. Demonstrated ability to work closely with different groups as well as peers.
Experience in an academic setting is a plus.
