GENERAL SUMMARY: |
The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for initiating and providing nutritional care to pediatric, adolescent, and select adult patients in assigned areas; participating in the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental goals and ensuring compliance with JCAHO standards. The Clinical Dietitian is also responsible for providing and presenting education, seminars, and workshops for dietetics students, medical, nursing, and other allied health professionals and students, families/caregivers, children and community groups. The Clinical Dietitian can participate in research studies and publish or present results and can participate in hospital committees. The Clinical Dietitian demonstrates competence defined below in Clinical Dietitian responsibilities. Some of these competencies are used in providing age-appropriate nutrition care and service to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and to selected adults.
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, American Dietetic Association registration, and licensure to practice as a dietitian from the Ohio Board of Dietetics; OR – licensed permit with completion and passing of the RD exam within 3 months of employment.
Experience as a clinical dietitian required; clinical pediatric experience desirable.
Analytical and organizational skills required to evaluated patients' nutrition needs, with age/developmental appropriateness in mind, and to formulate and implement care plans.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required to educate patients, families/caregivers, hospital staff and the public; and to write reports and correspondence and document patient care activities.
Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and families/caregivers, CHI medical, nursing and allied medical staff, other clinical dietitians, occupational therapists and speech therapists, other hospital personnel, other agencies and institutions, and the public.
