The Clinical Documentation Specialist is responsible for concurrent review of the clinical documentation in the patient medical record to obtain the most accurate and complete physician documentation that appropriately supports the severity of patient illness, mortality statistics and proper reimbursement. Facilitates modifications of the clinical documentation as needed through extensive concurrent education and interaction with physicians, nursing staff, utilization and case management staff, and the HIM coding staff. This position queries physicians and other care givers via written queries and verbal communication, to clarify clinical documentation in order to support that the appropriate clinical severity is captured for the level of services rendered to all patients. The position also cross trains to the Case Manager function and may carry an assignment.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
2 year/Associate degree required
4 year/Bachelor degree preferred
3-5 years clinical nursing experience required
Clinical documentation or coding experience preferred
Organizational, Analytical, Microsoft Office, Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize, Verbal Communication skills
License, Registration and/or Certification:
Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Kansas required
