Clinical Lab Scientist II
MIN REQS: Baccalaureate degree. Prefer five years experience in a clinical laboratory in an acute care laboratory. Two to four years experience in the specific section. One year internship in an approved Medical Technology program. California state license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. This is a variable shift position.
SUMMARY: Perform a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests classified as waived, moderate and high complexity tests and procedures according to established standards; maintain and calibrate highly scientific equipment; serve as a resource to others relative to technical questions; provide leadership for a specific section of the laboratory; assume responsibility for all QC/QA activities relative to that section of the laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Perform lab specimen testing for all ages of patients in order to provide accurate and timely diagnostic data in accordance with established procedures and policies. 2. Evaluate the validity of results to determine if the value is outside the expected norms and documents and verbally report all panic and critical test results to patient care area according to procedure. 3. Responsible for dailyquality control studies, calibration, and equipment maintenance to insure accuracy of clinical lab data; recognize and report problems and document corrective action; responsible for timely calibration verification and reportable range studies for all instruments. 4. Demonstrate effective organization and set appropriate priorities by completing assignments within prescribed timeframes. 5. Contribute to the effective communication needs of the department by providing timely and accurate communication in a positive manner, assisting callers or visitors . 6. Maintain a safe, clean environment for all members of the health care team including collecting and disposing of specimens and other contaminated material according to established procedure with adherence to standards of infection control and blood/body fluid precautions and protective equipment when necessary. 7. Demonstrate and maintain commitment for self growth and competency including completion of all mandatory education requirements according to hospital and department standards and state licensing standards. 8. Participate fully in department activities, provide input into staff discussion, problem solving effort and follow-up; monitor performance in the department, educating employees about changes or issues. 9. Effectively use all computer equipment, programs, and instrument interfaces related to departmental operating functions. 10. Responsible for CQI activities to assure accurate test performance and resulting; oversee and resolve all QC/QA activities in the respective section.
