The Clinical Laboratory Coordinator collaborates with the School of Nursing and Allied Health faculty and staff in performing duties essential to the achievement of a multidimensional educational link between lectures and clinical/practical lab experience.
Job Responsibilities:
Assumes responsibility for activities relating to the harmonious functioning of the School of Nursing and Allied Health in accordance with established protocol; initiates and implements other activities as directed by the Dean.
Coordinates and administers the Clinical Simulation Laboratory by:
Advising and consulting with the Chairperson and Learning Resource Committee
Establishing and updating policies and standard practices related to the use of simulation technology
Establishes and monitors procedures for signing out of simulation lab equipment and movement of simulation equipment from one lab area to another
Developing, presenting, evaluating and refining scenarios utilized for simulation experiences utilizing role playing, props and dialogue to create a realistic learning environment
Developing new simulation experiences based on student or faculty identified needs and serving as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities
Coordinating with faculty novice to graduate level skills checkpoint assessments
Maintains the simulation inventory system by:
Ensuring the completion of an annual inventory of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory
Preparing and ordering supplies as needed into the Clinical Simulation Laboratory inventory
Ensuring the safe storage of hazardous materials, including medications
Overseeing the collection and disposal of waste materials according to regulations
Determining the inventory needs for the Clinical Simulation Laboratory
Scheduling use of the lab and equipment
Participates in and contributes to the upkeep of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory by:
Providing advice and orientation to instructors regarding simulation laboratory procedures, location and use of materials and the operation of equipment
Recommending and/or performing general cleaning in the Clinical Simulation Laboratory
Recommending and/or performing maintenance or repairs of equipment in the Clinical Simulation Laboratory
Initiating and coordinating approved simulation laboratory renovations and repairs
Participates in and contributes to a safe environment in the Clinical Simulation Laboratory by:
Keeping current with safety regulations
Establishing, updating and maintaining safety policy within the Clinical Simulation Lab
Checking and maintaining safety equipment
Providing training and enforcement of safety procedures to the individuals, including faculty, students and staff using the simulation laboratory
Participates in and contributes to the learning needs of students in nursing programs by:
Serving as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation in classroom/lab activities
Assisting students, either independently or in conjunction with faculty/SNAH personnel, in
realizing course/clinical objectives through utilization of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory
Providing student progress feedback to instructors
Tutoring students who require remedial assistance or additional assistance with learning
Utilizing instructional methods that promote student development of critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, clinical competency and life-long learning
Willing to function as clinical teaching assistant at clinical agency site
Assists with agency clinical placement requests
Assists with advising students and participating in advising and information sessions for the current and perspective nursing and allied health students
Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individual
Participates in and contributes to accrediting processes for the University as well as the School of Nursing and Allied Health
Assists with departmental needs as directed by the Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health
Qualifications:
The Clinical Laboratory Coordinator is expected to be able to present a positive image of the School of Nursing and Allied Health and the University and possess strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills and must be able to assertively communicate with faculty, staff and administrators as well as external constituents.
Additional skills and qualifications include:
RN/BSN
ACLS Certification or must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment
First Aid/CPR or must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment
Ability to prepare and organize simulation laboratory and demonstration materials
Ability to set priorities on own initiative
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work with advanced technology including simulation equipment and Microsoft Office
Medical-Surgical knowledge and clinical practice experience
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Ability to accommodate change
Ensures a safe and healthy work environment by complying with health and safety policies, standard practices and programs in keeping with the Occupational Health & Safety Legislation and Regulations
EDUCATION
A Bachelors of Science in Nursing with a unencumbered Registered Nursing License.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
Work may include evening or early morning hours for special events, skills check-offs and or clinical rotations.
