The Clinical Nursing Analyst is a registered professional nurse who functions under the direction of the VP of Nursing. This nurse, through advanced academic preparation, possesses advanced clinical expertise and utilizes this expertise to support quality in patient care delivery systems and processes. The Clinical Nursing Analyst manages multiple, simultaneous projects within the Nursing Division to enhance quality, promote bedside clinical knowledge and outcomes, This Nurse maintains responsibility for accreditation support functions as assigned, coordination of activities to ensure regulatory compliance, and serves as a system-wide resource to all levels of staff and management for assigned functions. The Clinical Nursing Analyst maintains the MedWest Harris/Swain policy base. He/she writes hospital policies utilizing and promoting evidence-based practice and nursing research. This nurse actively supports MedWest Harris/Swain in achieving its mission and goals, fosters communication and collaborative practice with members of the healthcare team, and serves as a positive role model to promote the professional image of nursing and expertise in professional nursing staff development practice.

Essential Job Functions ¨

Collaborates with nursing leadership and staff to identify educational opportunities, facilitates implementation of PI projects, and monitor outcomes to ensure quality patient care delivery ¨

Promotes delivery of safe patient care through continuous improvement of care delivery systems and processes ¨

Initiates and promotes performance improvement activities designed to promote quality care delivery ¨

Maintains databases to aggregate and trend PI data ¨

Facilitates regulatory compliance within parameters of assigned functions and collaborates with other departments to ensure interdisciplinary approach to compliance ¨

Maintains current knowledge of and serves as resource for performance improvement methodologies and processes ¨

Manages and maintains patient care policy base to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, Core Measures and evidence based nursing practice ¨

Maintains current knowledge and demonstrates use of advanced computer applications ¨

Demonstrates proactive self-direction in identifying needs and accomplishing organizational and departmental goals ¨

Serves as professional role model within the nursing units ¨

Serves as mentor in the development of peers and staff ¨

Promotes positive learning environment for staff ¨

Collaborates with Nursing Service Directors to enhance retention of staff ¨

Promotes professional nursing practice through evidence-based practice and ethical accountability ¨

Represents Nursing Administration on committees and task forces as assigned ¨

Maintains confidentiality

Knowledge and Skills Required/Preferred


Minimum Education:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years diverse clinical practice in an acute care environment required; previous performance improvement and large scale project management experience required; demonstrated progressive leadership skills required.


Ability to read, write and speak the English language; Strong customer service skills; Inter- and intra-departmental coordination of clinical education activities; Delegation skills required; Ability to multi-task essential; Ability to function in stressful situations essential; Strong detail orientation required; Proficiency with advanced computer applications required including word processing, presentation software, and database applications; Personal time management skills required; Adept as a change agent; Utilizes wide range of theories in managing complex problems or problem resolution; Demonstrated expertise related to the following required: commitment to the advancement of nursing practice and the nursing profession, interpersonal communication skills related to knowledge of group/system dynamics, commitment to staff education and development; Knowledge of nursing theory and research required; Compliance with the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses is required; Demonstrates knowledge of and practices within parameters outlined in North Carolina Nurse Practice Act.

Sitting, standing and walking intermittently; excessive keyboarding; lifting equipment

< 25 lbs. Work schedule may vary/fluctuate dependent on unit needs. This job may pose the potential of occupational exposure. Regular job tasks do not involve exposure but the employee may have potential exposure in some tasks. Travel between facilities may be required.
