DESCRIPTION

The Trainer (Clinical Research Coordinator) for the First Episode Psychosis (FEP) initiative will provide training and technical assistance to specialized early intervention treatment teams for individuals experiencing a newly emerging psychotic disorder. Interventions in FEP are targeted towards attaining full symptomatic recovery, relapse prevention, and return to previous level of social, academic and vocational functioning. The philosophies of recovery-oriented services and shared decision making are essential to this model of care. This initiative is under the Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) in the Division of Mental Health Services and Policy Research. The incumbent will report to and work closely with the Director of the FEP Initiative, the Director of the Center for Practice Innovation.

DUTIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:
1)Provide training and technical assistance to master's level clinicians. Both of these clinicians will be the primary point of contact for initial evaluation and treatment planning, as well as supervision of other members of the treatment team. Additionally, these clinicians will deliver behavioral interventions aimed at learning new skills and supporting behavior change, including Social Skills Training, Substance Abuse Treatment, Behavioral Activation, Coping Skills Training, and Psycho-education.

2)In order to provide the essential training and technical assistance with the necessary intensity and frequency for sites, the incumbent will have regular and consistent contact with sites. Training will occur in a variety of formats: face to face regional training sessions, on-site consultation visits, on-line meetings, and webinars.

3)In addition to these scheduled activities, the incumbent will be available by e-mail and telephone as needed by each site.

QUALIFICATIONS

1)Master's or Doctoral degree in psychology, social work, or other mental health counseling
2)At least three years of experience as a clinician providing recovery-oriented services to youths and/or adults living with severe mental illness. Experience treating substance abuse also desired.
3)Experience working as a trainer for a State, County, or agency mental health provider.
4)Experience with manualized treatment models.
5)Expertise in recovery-oriented, shared decision making, and team-based approaches.
6)Expertise in CBT, structured behavioral interventions, and motivational interviewing.

Special requirements:
Must be able to do some day traveling throughout downstate area.
