Position summaryThe Clinical Social Worker provides psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Services include advising family caregivers, providing patient education and counseling, and making necessary referrals for other social services. In Social Work Discharge Planning, reports to the Division Director of that department.Essential job functionsEMERGENCY DEPARTMENT-Provides psychiatric assessments of mental health patients. This will include communication with the patient, psychiatrists, patients' therapists, and family members. The results of this assessment will be summarized on the Mental Health Assessment form. -Makes recommendations to the Emergency Department physicians and psychiatrists regarding treatment of the patient.-Assist in accessing appropriate treatment for the patient. -Develop relationships with community agencies to expand knowledge of admission criteria, accessibility, and referral process. -Provide ongoing education for the Emergency Department personnel regarding psychiatric assessments and placement. -Maintain statistics on interventions for future planning (including types of cases, timing of most need, outcomes, etc.). -May be available to assist Emergency Department staff in other areas of crisis de-escalation. -May be available to assist with social work functions in Emergency Department (i.e., nursing home placement, Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, Emergency Detention Orders, Domestic Violence cases). Knowledge, skills abilitiesAbility to accept physician orders as related to their scope of arranging for continuum of care. Is knowledgeable of community resources and refers appropriately. Minimum qualifications EducationMaster's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. LicensureLicensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker. License-eligible clinical social workers and license-eligible social workers must pass exam and become licensed within six months of hire and must obtain temporary permit within 90 days of hire. Other Prior experience in a hospital or physician office related position is preferred.
