Job Description:
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.

The Clinical Database and Qlickview Developer position is in the Healthcare Analytics Unit (HAU) of the Research Institute. The Healthcare Analytics Unit (HAU) is a service unit of two Centers of Emphasis at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia: PolicyLab and the Center for Pediatric Clinical Effectiveness. The HAU serves as a resource for investigators who want to use administrative or other existing data to answer research questions, and offers programmer/analysts services to pull, clean, manage, model and analyze data.

As a member of the HAU Team the primary focus of this position will be to develop new analytic tools (applications) using Qlickview business intelligence (BI) software. The Developer will be involved in all phases of applications development. He/she will work with clients to understand the goals and requirements of their Qlickview application provide time estimates for the effort to create the application, and develop, debug, publish and maintain the application. The creation and maintenance of documentation for the application will also be an important function of the Developer.

The Developer will interface with members of several departments, including investigators at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and members of the hospital’s Enterprise Analytics team.

Requirements

The candidate must possess strong SQL and ETL skills. Experience working Qlickview is preferred but not required. Candidates who do not have experience with Qlickview will receive formal training on the product. Knowledge and experience in the following domains is desirable:
Statistical programming with large data sets:
• Programming experience with complex data models involving more than 10 tables
• Optimization of data models for query performance
• Optimization of scripts for specific applications
• Development of complex expressions for dynamic aggregation
• Basic statistics and data modeling
• Qlickview Scripting and ETL development
• Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
Layout and Design Best Practices for Displaying Quantitative Information
• Selection and design of charts and graphs to optimize visualization of quantitative information
• Background in graphic design and human factors concepts to enhance usability of applications
• Familiarity with ideas of Stephen Few and Edward Tufte on visual display of quantitative information
