To investigate violations of City codes and ordinances for zoning, signs, subdivisions, and landscaping.

Essential Job Functions:

Receives and records complaints of zoning, signs, landscaping, and subdivision violations; maintains records of investigative findings. Investigates complaints of zoning, signs, landscaping and subdivision violations by visiting the site to determine compliance with codes and ordinances; maintains files and records of investigative findings. Inspects assigned areas of the City to identify violations of zoning, signs, subdivision, and landscaping codes and ordinances; maintains files and records of investigative findings. Notifies person violating zoning, sign, landscaping or subdivision codes of the time period for correction of the violation based on limits set by the ordinances, and circumstances of the situation. Reinspects violations at the end of the time period set for compliance to determine whether the violation has been corrected. Notifies the supervisor of persons refusing to comply with ordinances for approval to issue citations or warrants. Testifies in court involving violations of zoning, signs, landscaping, and subdivision codes and ordinances. Provides technical information and answers questions in person, by telephone and by written correspondence regarding zoning, signs, landscaping, and subdivision ordinances and regulations. Receives and reviews all privilege license applications. Receives and reviews applications from citizens for signs and related permits; issues receipts for signs permit fees collected. Receives and reviews all residential building permits and requests for zoning clearance. Operates an assigned City automobile in the performance of essential job functions.

Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements:

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of high school, one (1) year of experience in the administration or enforcement of zoning, signs, subdivisions, or landscaping codes and ordinances or other public regulations, and one (1) year of experience in the interpretation of blueprints, plats, surveys, or a related area. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
