The person doing this job is responsible for a variety of tasks that lead to a high level of customer satisfaction in the most cost-effective manner. The coders are responsible for coding of all inpatient, outpatient, ER, clinics, superbills and short stay surgery records. The coder will work with both concurrent review and discharged charts for inpatients. A coder must have a through knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT conventions. A coder is responsible for abstracting data into the MIRA system using a Code 3 encoder.
2 Years IP Acute Hospital coding experience.
Knowledge of coding software-3M
Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy & physiology, disease process pharmacology.
Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 & HCPCS, coding rules & guidelines.
Accurately code inpatient/OP/ED/Ancillary conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
Responsible for abstracting, coding, and sequencing the classification of diagnosis surgical procedures records.
Assigns codes for diagnoses, treatments, & procedures according to the appropriate classification system for inpatient encounters.
Assigns present on admission (POA) value for inpatient diagnoses.
Accurately assign correct Discharge Disposition code.
Accurately assign codes for Observation encounter in accordance with coding guidelines.
Selects principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
