PURPOSE:
This position assigns, per coding guidelines, the ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 diagnosis and procedure codes for Inpatient, Outpatient, Same Day Surgery and Ancillary medical records and completes coding for all accounts on a timely basis within the four day hold for billing. This position also follows up on all accounts needing coding queries or documentation completion by clinicians or medical staff and demonstrates coding competencies with quality of coding, and daily output with volume consistent with department productivity standards.
REQUIRED:
Associates in HIM or HIT to include successful completion of course work in ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field. Requires RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification by AHIMA or Advanced Coding Specialist - Cardiology (ACS-CA).
PREFERRED:
Experience with applying anatomy, physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, diagnosis and procedural terms to assign ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 codes for diagnoses and procedures. Experience with utilizing an encoder software system and electronic abstracting system.
