Are you focused and technical in your medical coding abilities and current on all of your medical coding updates? Are you a team player that has drive and commitment to see that your job is done right? If so, then our Health Information Department would like to talk with you about joining their team. The ORMC Medical Coder must assess for principle diagnosis, principle procedure and co-morbid conditions of all patients. The Coder must also be able to assess charts for secondary diagnoses and procedure codes.

The Medical Coder must demonstrate the ability to identify and report significant deficiencies in information and assure that the appropriate ICD-9 diagnoses and ICD-9 procedures are used to obtain accurate DRG for reimbursement. The Coder must demonstrate the ability to coordinate proper criteria and correct guidelines for the highest level of reimbursement. This is needed to properly assign the ICD-9 and CPT Codes to ED, OP, Ambulatory Care, Same Day Surgery and IN patient charts.

Medical Coders must be able to demonstrate the ability to appropriately identify unusual comments/items/diagnoses on charts and communicate these through the appropriate chain of command to their supervisors. All applicants must be High School graduates (or have their GED), must be a Certified Coding Specialist through AHIMA as well as have one year of coding experience in order to be considered for this position. A strong prior medical background is preferred for this position. Applicants will be tested on their coding procedures and abilities as part of the interviewing process.
