Code inpatient hospital discharge and outpatient day surgery records for the purpose of reimbursement, research and compliance with federal regulation according to diagnosis, operation, and procedure using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 classification system (and ICD-10 when implemented). Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Certification (one of the following):
CCS - Certified Coding Specialist
RHIT - Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
RCC - Radiology Certified Coder (RCC)
CPC-H - Certified Professional
Work Experience: Two (2) years hospital coding experience
Basic computer knowledge
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel and other MS Products.
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
