A Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management is required.
Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Coding Specialist (CCS) is required.
Demonstrated previous experience with healthcare-related educational activities is required.
A minimum of five years’ experience in ICD9 and CPT coding systems is required.
AHIMA certification as an ICD-10 Trainer is preferred.
Previous experience and demonstrated proficiency coding from an electronic medical record is required.
Experience with the Cerner Powerchart electronic medical record is highly desirable.
Proficiency in computer skills, especially presentation software and tools, is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Must be able to handle a variety of tasks and projects; able to demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work and complete tasks independently is required.
Must be able to problem-solve and communicate in a professional manner with physicians, staff and other health care professionals.
Reports to Manager of Medical Record Services.
Has constant working contact with Coding Coordinators, Coding Analysts and Coder/Abstractors.

Designs, prepares, presents and evaluates coding education programs for the enterprise for all types of staff, including but not limited to HIM and non-HIM Coders, medical staff, nursing and other clinical departments.
Administers the Coder apprentice and graduate programs, including participating in candidate selection, providing classroom and lab training and develops/implements appropriate candidate competency exams.
Researches, creates and edits education materials for a variety of audiences.
Develops and administers a comprehensive Coder training program.
Recommends and writes, upon request, coding policies and procedures.
Assists with and/or participates in Coding quality audits.
Recommends and develops ongoing education programs based on audit findings.
May develop other educational programs for staff, related to process improvement.
Participates or facilitates education related activities related to EMR documentation and coding practice.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
