Essential Responsibilities
As a Collaboration Researcher in the Collaboration Lab, you will invent and merge technologies to develop new software’s and systems for industrial collaboration.

You will also determine requirements for fully digitized industrial collaboration environments, both internal collaboration as well as collaboration with customers and partners; create new collaborative system designs; recognize needs for license or invent new technologies required to enable highly efficient and effective collaboration environments.

As a Collaboration Researcher, you will work in a multidisciplinary team to:

  • Invent and develop technology in one or more of the following areas: social collaboration, multi-modal unified communications, semantic search, natural language processing, security, communication networks, analytics associated with enterprise social networks, collaborative canvas designs.
  • Develop new concepts & apply them by identifying business problems and creating / leading projects aligned within the lab’s larger programs.
  • Determine system designs, working with cross-functional technology and business teams.
  • Work directly with customers to identify opportunities & evaluate solutions.
  • Prototype solutions & provide technical guidance for new products.
  • Apply research methods to systematically evaluate concepts/prototypes in the field.
  • Be customer & solution driven , yet always seek out opportunities to patent and publish new ideas.

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Doctorate Degree in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with relevant research project experience (OR) Master's Degree in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) with at least 3 years of relevant research project experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year academic or work experience in computer programming, analytics, or solution design.
  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in San Ramon, CA.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

    Desired Characteristics
  • Prior experience designing and conducting user research to design and validate innovative collaborative environments.
    Have an in-depth understanding of computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) tools and technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge/expertise in one or more collaboration research/technology areas:

    • Unified communications: Audio/video, IM, screen-sharing.
    • Social collaboration: Social networking, enterprise social software, online forums, expertise location, NUI for collaboration.
    • Coordination-based collaboration: enterprise workflow management.
    • Collaborative visualization.
    • Cloud computing for social applications.
    • Collaboration and social applications on mobile platforms.
  • Familiarity with agile / lean methodologies.
  • Experience conducting user research and developing collaborative environments.
  • Demonstrate hands-on experience in specific technology areas relevant to collaborative environments.
  • Strong publication record in peer reviewed journals and conferences, including invited talks.
  • Proven ability to work across geographically dispersed teams.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
