This position will assist the Senior Collections Analyst in the following areas: communicate with internal clients [branches] regarding past due clients; determine credit eligibility for new clients & assign credit limits up to authorized amounts; prepare journal entries; determine if existing clients are eligible for credit limit increases; release credit overrides; & assist with cash allocation. The position requires the use of multiple computer systems. Position will also assist with other related duties & special projects as needed.
SCOPE AND GOALS
Position will require a strong mathematical aptitude and basic understanding of accounting principles. Collection function is decentralized and contact is primarily with internal clients to resolve outstanding past due balances. It will be necessary to develop strong working relationships with the branch personnel & work as a team to resolve problems & collect past due monies. An understanding of third party credit reports such as Dun & Bradstreet and a basic understanding of customer financial statements will be very important with regards to the credit function.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as backup to Senior Collections Analyst when necessary
- Release credit overrides
- Perform credit reviews & assign credit limits if applicable
- Prepare journal entries
- Coordinate with third party collection agency for clients placed for collection
- Maintain bad debt provision adjustment and credit balance schedules
- Assist with cash allocation duties
- Communicate with internal and external clients to assist in the collection of monies
- Since this is a shared service environment, metrics will be established & are expected to be met
- Generate weekly & monthly reports
QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED)
Education and/or Experience
Minimum Associates degree – Bachelor degree preferred
Strong understanding of basic accounting principles: debits, credits, journal entries, & concept of general ledger as well as the business process underlying the Invoice to Cash function
Some experience with commercial collections [1 – 2 years]
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Some experience with cash application
Previous experience with third party credit reports [i.e., Dun & Bradstreet]
Previous credit review experience preferred
Ten key by touch with minimum proficiency of 7500kph
Proficient in MS Office products - Intermediate Excel, Word and Outlook skills
Experience with Oracle & AS400 computer operating system helpful, but not necessary
Fluent in English
Requires ability to read and comprehend English.
Basic to intermediate mathematical aptitude, primarily accounting
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent problem solving skills and evidence of problem resolution
Ability to work independently with minimal direction or supervision
