Middlesex Hospital, located in Middletown, CT, is a progressive Community Teaching Hospital with 210 beds and a 450 member physician staff. We average over 90% annual retention of our emergency physicians. Come see why!

Middlesex Hospital has a unique three-ED system seeing 93,000 patients per year. The hospital ED sees 46,000 patients per year with 51 physician and 20 PA hours per day. Our ED system also includes two freestanding satellite EDs (in Essex and Marlborough, CT). They see 25,000 and 22,000 patients per year, and each have 24 hours of physician coverage and 12 hours of PA coverage. We work 8.5 hour shifts and average 1.8 patients per provider hour. New physicians typically begin in the hospital ED, then rotate to the satellite EDs as desired. Family Practice residents rotate through the EDs, providing teaching opportunities.

All three of our EDs have state-of-the-art physical plants, new within the last eight years. We use an efficient EMR (Cerner), dictation, and PACS. Physician scheduling is very flexible and adaptable to special requests.

Middetown, the home of Wesleyan University, is 16 miles south of Hartford, 25 miles northeast of New Haven, two hours from NYC or Boston, and three hours from Cape Cod beaches or Vermont skiing. Public schools are excellent. Housing prices are dramatically less than the New York, Fairfield County, or Boston areas. Many of our physicians live in Connecticut shoreline towns. The area has great boating, golf, sophisticated dining, and theatre.

Our physicians are hospital employees, providing job stability and reliable income growth. The compensation and benefits package is valued up to $380K. This includes a substantial performance incentive, occurrence malpractice coverage, family health insurance, retirement program with hospital match, paid sick time, disability insurance, life insurance, and 7.5 weeks of paid vacation/CME per year.

Our group is a stable and happy 30 physician group, 90% EM residency trained. We take great pride in our care, and average 95th percentile patient satisfaction on Press Ganey scores.

Come see why our physicians come and stay. Visit us, speak with our physicians, and see if Middlesex is right for you!
