The White Plains Office is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter:
Position Description: Candidate selected will: review and evaluate renewal and new business in accordance with established underwriting guidelines. This position will focus on multi-line opportunities in the Westchester territory. The individual will be expected to be very effective at generating relationships and capitalizing on agency travel. Help achieve department goals of profit, rate and growth. Lines of business include property, general liability, products liability, auto, work comp and umbrella. Underwriter is responsible for building relationships with producers, negotiating price, developing prospects, managing profitability, retention and new business goals. This individual will be expected to develop and implement detailed tactical plans for key agents. Must be able to work effectively in collaboration with a team of underwriters, underwriter associates, claims, and loss control personnel. Will manage a $3-5 mm book of complex business with aggressive new business goals and frequent agency travel.
Competencies/Tech Skills: The ideal candidate will have at 3-5 years of experience in multi-line underwriting. They will know how to build and maintain productive and dynamic relationships. Candidate should be able to demonstrate success in networking, negotiating, building strong relationships with customers and providing exceptional customer service. Candidate should be able to analyze risks, prioritize the gathering of underwriting data, and clearly communicate a well thought-out underwriting approach. Candidate needs to be able to organize his/her work well and utilize multiple internal and external resources in an efficient manner. Candidate must show that they can work cohesively with service staff, loss control and claims.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 to 5 years of underwriting experience
