Summary:
The Commodities Manager plays a crucial role in supporting our purpose of being our customers’ competitive advantage by serving as a key interface and essential resource for our commodities team. Werner Electric has seen significant growth in Wire and Cable Products. Werner’s ability to provide “value added services” to these products has begun to set us apart from local competition. . This position will focus specifically on the development and management of the commodities team and key supplier relationships, creating and managing specialty wire and cable inventory, quotations, and adding technical and commercial value in a customer facing role when needed. This will include but not be limited to Medium Voltage Power Cable, VFD, Instrumentation, and Tray Cables. The focus of this position will be on building wire and specialty cable. This individual will work closely with Sales and Operations to grow share and profitability. This individual displays behaviors that support our culture, our 5 P’s and our purpose to be our customer’s competitive advantage.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
The primary responsibility of this position is to drive market share growth and profitability, though there is a strong ownership in sourcing selections and inventory needs

This position will be the gate keeper for market intelligence. Work closely with Sales Team to communicate/ educate them on market conditions for wire and cable and provide support to growth opportunities

Work directly with key customers to support their wire and cable needs

Owner of costing and pricing strategies for wire and cable

Negotiate costing and backside rebates for key Suppliers

Make decisions on which Suppliers the company purchases from for stock and direct business taking into account the Suppliers complete package

Determine what products will be stocked at all locations for wire and cable

Research and understand the copper market and its trends; Based on this analysis make buying decisions that drive growth and profitability

Take advantage of buying power by negotiating purchases for combined projects from each region as well as stock needs (bulk purchases, contract buys, special programs, etc.)

Provide feedback to Operations on potential Value Add options that customers see as providing value and are willing to pay for

Advise Marketing on opportunities for tools to support growth

Required Skills

Critical Success Factors:
Significant knowledge of the commodities market and the players involved

Ability to negotiate effectively at a high level that benefits the company financially while working to develop good relationships with customers and vendors. Be willing to take managed risk

Ability to analyze trends, cost/pricing strategies, and best practices to constantly improve wire market share and profitability

Building a strong relationship with the Purchasing Manager and work closely with them and the Purchasing Buyer to manage inventory levels to maximize inventory turns and customer satisfaction

Communication of changes in the market to Sales and Purchasing

Required Experience

Job Requirements/Specifications:
5 years experience buying and selling wire and specialty cable

Negotiation skills to maximize profitability

Significant knowledge of wire and cable product offerings and use of each product

Knowledge of commodities market and the product involved

Analyzing skills to identify trends, locate opportunities, etc.

Strong communication skills to effectively represent WE to suppliers and customers

Previous sales experience or exposure a plus

Travel may be required (approximately 15%) for training and support of customer needs
