Position Summary:

The Commodity Manager reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible to supervise a team of buyers in day-to-day effective purchasing of direct material, as well as commodity management responsibility. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency, ability to think strategically, and excellent problem solving, communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills. Travel will be minimal. Success will be measured through tracked results in the areas of P.P.V. and additional cost-out activities, inventory turns, supplier performance, plant’s on-time delivery and days payable goals. This position will also support development and execution of procurement process improvements that ensure business success in the short and long term.

Successful candidate will: (essential duties and responsibilities)
  • Develop and execute commodity plans for commodities of responsibility
  • Establish and maintain PPV funnel to achieve PPV goals for commodities of responsibility within both domestic and low cost regions
  • Working with operations, determine and execute inventory strategies to achieve inventory reduction goals
  • Working with design engineering during product development to ensure material cost targets are met from the initial launch of a new product.
  • Support overall company goal of 98% on-time delivery to customer request through on-time delivery performance of suppliers within commodities of responsibility
  • Ensure high quality products from suppliers within commodities of responsibility
  • Drive procurement process improvements to ensure future / long term success
  • Negotiate major purchasing contracts, blanket orders and long term purchase agreements taking into account liability
  • Establish mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers to ensure high quality goods, reliable delivery dates, and reasonable and consistent pricing
  • Provide analysis and prepare reports, as required

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain, engineering or related curriculum
  • Minimum of 6 years purchasing experience with proven results
  • Experience in J.I.T. environment is advantageous
  • Aerospace / Defense experience is advantageous
  • Understanding of Kanban implementation / management
  • Understanding of material management, JIT, MRP/ERP
  • Demonstrated successful project management skills
  • Must be PC literate with spreadsheets, word processing
  • Demonstrated negotiations skills
  • Demonstrated leadership in implementing successful purchasing process improvements
  • Ability to set proper priorities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
  • Experience with SAP is advantageous
  • Must be proactive, action-oriented, have a sense of urgency
