This faculty role is a full-time lecturer appointed for the academic year 2013-2014. This position is not eligible to be considered for or awarded tenure or promotion in academic rank. Lecturers may apply for tenure-track vacancies as they arise. These applications will be considered on their merits, under the same criteria as all applicants.
The person in this position will teach five courses per semester in organizational communication and possibly general studies. Courses taught might include Organizational Communication Theory, Consulting and Organizational Development, Organizational Identity, Teams, and Leadership. Lecturers are expected to keep office hours and demonstrate a commitment to service in the Department and University. The Communication Arts Department cultivates skill in understanding, evaluating, and producing communication. A colleague in Communication Arts and Sciences is expected to have a broad intellectual outlook, value the methodological and theoretical diversity within the field and within a university with a teaching mission, enjoy interdisciplinary collaboration and mentoring an extraordinary population of students from diverse urban-commuter backgrounds.
Ph.D. in Speech Communication, Communication Studies, or Human Communication by July 1, 2013.
1) College teaching experience, 2) Organizational communication focus, 3) Course development experience, 4) Demonstrated engagement in discipline-currency, and 5) experience with non-traditional students and diverse urban groups. In particular, we seek candidates who demonstrate the ability to teach from a perspective that includes U.S. ethnic minorities, other marginalized groups, and/or women.
