Under general supervision perform a wide variety of communication related tasks; receive complaints and requests for services from citizens and public safety personnel; operate varied and complex computerized communication equipment; and perform related work as required. Provide Emergency Medical Dispatch pre-arrival instructions to callers; operate and monitor the TIME System and ShotSpotter computer equipment.

Accurately, quickly, and courteously receives incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls using E-911 computerized equipment. Identifies nature of the report and the proper agencies to respond. Refers the caller or relays the message when further internal action is not required.
Serves as an information resource to response units and general public.
Relays requests for information through data sources and returns response to units. Locates requested information through additional sources as ability dictates.
Acts as liaison between public officials and the general public.
Operate the Time System Teletype Machine (TIME) used for driver's license checks, registration checks, checks for wanted persons, etc.
Participates in job related training sessions and seminars. Observes field operations of public safety response units. Attends required staff meetings.
Records information and maintains necessary and accurate records of activity and performance.
Testifies at adjudication hearings when necessary.
Performs related work as required.

Success Factors (KSA's):
Ability to type 40 net words per minute.
Knowledge of police, fire and emergency medical service procedures.
Ability to comprehend or learn department practices, rules and regulations.
Ability to operate telephone, teletype, and other specialized computer communications equipment.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to use professional customer service skills with public and user agencies.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Ability to think and react quickly and effectively to tense or emergency situations.
Ability to remain call and multi-task under stressful situations.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of Rock County geographic area.
Ability to read maps.
Ability to recall details from numerous informational resources.
Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures.
Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime.

Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
One (1) year experience in public safety call taking or dispatching is preferred.
The requirements listed below must be completed within a 6 month probationary period.
Required to become APCO Certified.
Required to become TIME Certified.
Required to become CPR Certified.
Required to become EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch )Certified
