Food Bank For New York City recognizes 28 years as the city's major hunger-relief organization working to end food poverty throughout the five boroughs. As one of the country's largest food banks, our mission is to end hunger in New York City by organizing food, information and support for community survival and dignity. As the city's hub for integrated food poverty assistance, the Food Bank tackles the hunger issue on three fronts — food distribution , income support and nutrition education — all strategically guided by its research .
Primary Purpose of Job:
The Communications Manager will serve as the brand voice for the Food Bank For New York City, creating and maintaining all messaging and communication materials for internal and external audiences.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
Write copy for print materials, internal and external newsletters, website, speeches, scripts, Letters to the Editor, Op-Ed and signage;
Oversee design and creation of event, educational and promotional materials across all departments;
Serve as liaison for Communications & Marketing division with other Food Bank departments;
Work across all Food Bank departments to ensure consistency in brand messaging;
Create editorial content based on researching trends and interviewing clients;
Maintain Food Bank style and messaging guides;
Oversee Food Bank photography, communication files;
Assist in creating communication, online and social media plans;
Perform other duties as directed.
B.A. or B.S. Degree;
A minimum of three-five years experience in communications, writing, publishing, advertising/public relations, or related field;
Superb writing, research, proofreading and editing skills;
Organizational skills to coordinate and supervise multiple projects and multi-task;
Ability to manage work against hard deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
Analytical/critical thinker and resourceful project manager with excellent communications skills;
Skilled in using InDesign, Publisher, QuarkExpress and PhotoShop.
