RedRover, an animal welfare nonprofit organization is seeking a dynamic entry-level communications assistant to help with writing, media relations, marketing, public relations, outreach, social media and communication with the general public. Specifically, the person in this position will:
  • Develop, maintain and update online content as directed by the Communications Manager, including website, social networking sites and blog using stories, video and photos
  • Write content as needed for press releases, online and email communications, publications, brochures, public education materials and corporate partnerships
  • Provide social media support, posting to social networking sites as directed and monitoring online media for specified topics related to RedRover's programs and activities
  • Issue press releases and pitch stories to media outlets
  • Implement outreach strategies to increase attendance at workshops and online trainings
  • Create and maintain media lists and field media inquiries
  • Answer incoming telephone calls as promptly as possible; supply information to caller or route call to the appropriate staff member
  • Coordinate informational email account; route email messages to the appropriate staff member
  • Act as "brand ambassador," ensuring proper and consistent use of RedRover naming conventions, brand attributes and logo
  • Coordinate with communications volunteers during emergency sheltering deployments and for other communications projects as directed by the Communications Manager
  • Prepare photography and other media for publication; maintain digital media library
  • Assist with proofreading external documents circulating to a mass audience -Update fliers and other materials as needed using Adobe InDesign
  • Assist with donor data entry when back-up is needed
  • Accomplish other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Communications Manager
The mission of RedRover is to bring animals out of crisis and strengthen the bond between people and animals through emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance and education. RedRover accomplishes its mission by engaging volunteers and supporters, collaborating with others and maximizing the use of online technology. Based in Sacramento, California, RedRover operates programs for animals in crisis or in need across the nation and is best known for its RedRover Responders program, which trains and deploys thousands of volunteers who come to the aid of animal victims of disasters and other emergencies.

Education : Bachelor of Arts degree in a communications-related discipline

Experience : The position requires a Bachelor of Arts degree in a communications-related discipline. Must have a truly exceptional ability, interest and facility to write in a variety of mediums, excellent telephone etiquette and strong interpersonal communications skills. Must be detail-oriented, efficient, reliable, a team-player and able to balance and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will follow and implement directives; and, at the same time, be independent, intelligent and inspired to seek and create opportunities. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated passion for animal welfare and the personal charisma and eagerness to be a dynamic and compelling ambassador to diverse audiences. Finally, the successful candidate must have experience using Microsoft Office; Google Apps; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) or similar programs; and experience with HTML and Drupal or other browser-based Web content management system (CMS). Experience with Convio, Blackbaud Sphere or similar Constituent Relationship Management tools and digital and social media preferred.

Hours : 5 hours per week

Salary : $13.18 - 18.68 per hour
