Unit Job Summary

Communications Associate: Responsibility for implementation of key elements of the School's communications plan. Key responsibilities include supporting the production of print and electronic materials through writing content and editorial-related project management. This includes all printed publications, electronic newsletters, press releases, and content for the Chicago Harris website, social media platforms, as well as internal communication vehicles. The Communications Associate is integral to helping Chicago Harris communicate its brand to key audiences in the Chicago metropolitan area, nationally, and internationally. The Communications Associate works under the direct supervision Director of Communications, with a reporting relationship to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Along with the Director of Communications, develop and execute department-specific communications plans ? Admissions, Alumni Relations and Development, Career Development, and Office of the Dean of Students. Initiate, write, update, and edit content for the School's website (harrisschool.uchicago.edu) using existing content management application, including articles about faculty research, alumni, community news, and more. Assemble and disseminate electronic publications going primarily to alumni, students, and supporters. Coordinate and assist in production of marketing materials ? requires writing, editing, working with vendors, and ensuring accuracy and timeline objectives are met Work closely with other departments within the School to support their printing, marketing, and presentation needs

Education

Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

A minimum of two years of relevant experience required.

Experience conducting first-person interviews required.

At least three years of paid experience in communications, public relations, marketing or journalism preferred.

Experience translating complex processes and ideas to general audience preferred.

Competencies

Proven writing, editing, and production skills required for both print and online venues required.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure required.

Ability to work independently with various stakeholders required.

Willingness to work flexible schedule to accommodate covering School events required.

Some travel may be required.

Knowledge of design programs such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator strongly preferred.
