Reports to : Senior Manager, Marketing
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Position Summary : Responsible for overseeing communications functions (e.g. Marketing, PR, etc.) for Best Friends-related activities associated with the Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Services, the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) Initiative and Best Friends Los Angeles Programs promotional activities and events. Includes direct management of Los Angeles communications staff, Los Angeles agency relationships, and acting as Communications liaison between Best Friends Communications Division and Los Angeles staff.
Responsibilities include:
Deliver against Communications-related strategies developed by the organizational Communications Division, by developing Communication goals, forecasts, metrics and plans
Oversee annual Los Angeles Communication budget and plan
Implement Marketing, PR and other Communications-related programs and activities to increase awareness and ensure the advancement of Best Friends mission and growth goals in Los Angeles
Using Los Angeles-focused research and analytics, provide consultation on establishing Los Angeles -focused market segments to best capitalize on local market opportunities
Network and foster local relationships with all professional agencies as needed, such as advertising, PR and marketing firms, media outlets and vendors
Ensure that all local promotions and activities adhere to the established Best Friends brand strategy and guidelines
Coordinate local media buys, local artists, and local vendors with the organizational Communications Division
In collaboration with the organizational Communications Division, orchestrate Los Angeles-focused press releases. press events, press coverage and press conferences; direct all local media inquiries and interest to the appropriate local spokesperson
Coordinate and communicate local Communications plans with relevant co-workers and involved parties
Participate in organizational Communications Division meetings to ensure a line of communication and a sense of collaboration
Supervise personnel, including work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance
Required skills and experience:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, PR or related field. MBA with concentration in Marketing/Communications is desired.
Minimum 6 years of marketing experience with proven ability to create, document and execute marketing plans.
Significant knowledge and experience living or working in Los Angeles preferred
Animal welfare experience and knowledge of/experience with Best Friends Animal Society preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills. The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well with a variety of people
Strong analytical skills and ability to establish business and financial justifications for Communications initiatives.
Experience managing and developing staff required
Professionally advocate Best Friends positions on issues
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
Proven project management, financial planning and forecasting experience with track record in attaining stated goals
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills. Attention to detail
Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Valid Drivers License with access to transportation to travel on organization business
Physical Requirements:
Ability to participate in events including nights and weekends and assist in the set-up and breakdown of events
Extended work at a computer with repetitive typing, arm and hand motion
Periodic trips to various out-of-state locations such as Kanab, Utah which may require use of public transportation
