As the Communications Manager in the Communications Group at Plum Creek, you will be located in our corporate office (Wells Fargo building on Third and Madison, 43rd floor) in downtown Seattle, Washington . This office is home to about 60 employees and will provide great exposure to the Senior Executive Team of Plum Creek.
You will report to the Director of Communications based in our Seattle office. You will help the team maintain its charter of protecting and enhancing Plum Creek's reputation and helping the company and its businesses achieve business objectives. This will be achieved by, among other things, promoting understanding of the company externally, providing communications counsel and support to company managers, and helping to keep employees informed and involved.
The Communications Group reports to the President and Chief Operating Officer. This position is highly visible to all segments and levels of the organization from Vice Presidents through entry level employees. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships throughout the company. You will gain a diverse understanding of Plum Creek and its businesses.

As a Communications Manager , you will:
Plan and manage a variety of communications programs and projects, including internal and external communications and electronic platforms, promotional activities, and logistical planning and execution. Provide communications support to businesses.

Website management:
Serve as project manager for external website redesign/refresh initiative
Manage website content; coordinate with business and functional representatives; once launched, assume responsibility for content development and updates
Ensure website maintains a high level of quality, visibility and message consistency
Develop and maintain website policy and procedures
Coordinate with the company's Information Technologies (IT) group

External communications (other):
Lead or collaborate on a variety of external communications programs and activities, including, but not limited to:
Write, develop, update fact sheets, company biographies, other materials
Write and issues news releases
Collaborate with Communications Director and Sustainability Team to produce sustainability-related communications materials
Disseminate messaging throughout the organization as appropriate
Assist with media relations, including media training.
Develop and implement communications plans/briefs
Support businesses, including identifying objectives, communications strategies and tactics, messages and action plans.

Internal communications:
Develop, manage and implement employee communications program, including but not limited to:
Company newsletters and other outreach channels
Portal communications (internal website) management, in partnership with IT, to enhance, embellish, ensure content refreshment, collaborate with community owners.
Team with Human Resources in promoting employee initiatives e.g., wellness, education, as appropriate.

Promotional activities :
Coordinate with Plum Creek businesses to develop and produce brochures, advertising, marketing materials using Plum Creek standards.

Logistical planning and execution :
Ensure reliable, timely and professional implementation of Plum Creek communications and brand enhancement, including, but not limited to:
Corporate identity standards and Plum Creek logo
Photo library
SharePoint site development and maintenance
Other administrative duties, as appropriate.

Additional Requirements:
Specific Skills:
A team player with critical thinking capabilities, ability to advocate for best communications practices.
A strategic thinker, with excellent judgment to effectively develop and execute projects.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Excellent human relations skills.
Broad and thorough understanding of communications principles, strategies and tactics, including those associated with websites and internal portals.

Travel and Other:
Available for occasional travel within the United States.

Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of professional communications experience, including working in a corporate environment.
Demonstrated record of managing projects reliably and accurately, while meeting budgets and deadlines. Experience managing projects for internal and external communications, as well as for electronic platforms.
Experience overseeing the daily operations associated with website management; content management; knowledgeable about search engine optimization (SEO) best practices and capturing analytics.
History of interacting with business people and developing and implementing communications plans and briefs to help achieve business objectives.
Seasoned communicator and writer for an array of other end products: fact sheets, newsletters, marketing materials, news releases (knowledge of AP style).
Supervising outside communications consulting firms; including managing project scopes and budgets preferred.
Some exposure to media relations and media training.
Proven expertise using SharePoint, PowerPoint and data-base management.
Knowledge of and experience with social media.
Previous experience with forest products, natural resource or related industry preferred.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or related field is required.
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) preferred.
