The successful Communications Manager candidate will report to the President with primary responsibility to lead and oversee SEEA’s internal and organizational marketing and communications activities, including the website/social media, newsletters and publications, branding and other public image activities such as drafting speeches and talking points. The Communications Manager will coordinate media contacts and work on communications campaigns and drive SEEA’s Associate Member program and related events. The Communications Manager also develops and adheres to the communications team budget while working with SEEA senior management to identify and secure outside funding for communications initiatives, and directs all aspects of specific marketing and communications initiatives as assigned by senior management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is responsible for defining, maintaining and promoting SEEA’s overall brand and programmatic work. Key activities include:

Communications and Media Relations : develops, executes, and manages strategic communications campaigns and tactics related to SEEA’s overall brand and its specific programs; garners significant media coverage for SEEA and its issues in trade, regional, and local media outlets by undertaking pro-active, strategic media relations; pitches SEEA policy positions, events, reports, statements, and story ideas to various media outlets; develops and maintains relationships with reporters, news directors, and producers; responds to media requests for interviews with SEEA spokespersons (Senior Staff) and schedules interviews; works closely with senior staff to support SEEA’s program and public policy work, including developing messages, writing and disseminating news releases, and placing op-eds and letters to the editor; develops or oversees development of specialized media lists; and plans and carries out news conferences and media briefings.

Writing/Editing : writes and distributes a range of materials related to communications campaigns, SEEA policy and program work, and general SEEA news; oversees development of event materials including news conferences, coalition meetings, forums, Associate Member meetings and other gatherings; drafts and edits articles bylined by SEEA staff that are solicited from outside organizations; and provides editorial assistance to staff as needed.

Publications and Speeches: oversee the development and implementation of a SEEA speaker’s bureau; manage development and distribution of SEEA’s Quarterly Newsletter; oversee the writing, designing, and printing of all SEEA program and general brand collateral material; drive creation and distribution of SEEA’s Annual Report; support the writing of speeches and presentations for SEEA management and team members; and lead the conceptualization and development of other promotional materials as needed.

Associate Membership Program Support

The Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance runs an Associate Member program to build connectivity between entities within the efficiency space and to grow unrestricted revenue for our organization. The group is akin to an industry trade association and the successful Communications Manager candidate will drive part of the strategic and majority of tactical execution for SEEA’s Associate Member program. Key activities include but are not limited to: developing and executing an annual calendar of member events; leveraging SEEA’s online and social media presence to drive greater connectivity among members; implement a benefit program that provides solid return on investment; and manage all member communications.

Website and Social Media: develop and execute an effective online and social media presence that promotes SEEA’s brand and builds greater connectivity among the Southeast efficiency community; create a schedule for and update content on SEEA’s website and social media platforms; ensure video and photos are captured and leveraged to further communications goals; and engage the efficiency community in a way that procures content that helps SEEA become the “online clearinghouse” for efficiency-related information.

Staff Management: provide day-to-day management of other SEEA communications personnel including the existing Communications Associate who is currently responsible for driving all marketing and communications activities for the BetterBuildings and State Energy Program grants.

Requirements

Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or related field with four or more years relevant experience

Excellent writing and editing skills

Good public speaking skills with the ability to make external presentations

Knowledge of and expertise with a range of web, social media and design programs

Strong interpersonal skills

Team-oriented

Ability to multi-task, working on a number of projects at one time and meeting requisite deadlines

SALARY

$65K – $80K. The Alliance to Save Energy and SEEA offer a generous benefits package and a stimulating work environment in Downtown Atlanta convenient to public transit (MARTA) rail and bus routes.
