This individual will join a team of communicators focused on driving positive media coverage of UnitedHealthcare's Medicare plans and positioning the company as a thought leader in the Medicare space. The ideal candidate will understand and embrace the role of public relations in shaping perception of a company and its products and will pursue innovative communications tactics to help support business objectives.
This individual will assume responsibility for managing communications programs and projects that are part of a broader public relations plan for a diversified public sector health care business operating in a complex and competitive business landscape. The individual will focus on execution of defined projects while ensuring alignment with the broader communications strategy through close collaboration with other members of the external communications team.
This communications professional will be responsible for developing strategies and tools to tell the company's story. The individual will be adept at quickly grasping the intricacies of a highly matrixed business operating in a complex industry, using information gathered through a variety of means to identify media angles and opportunities as well as business developments that could translate into positive media coverage. He or she will be a strong writer and verbal communicator.
This individual will be skilled at managing relationships with internal clients, including peers and leaders from a variety of functional areas. He or she will work to understand clients? goals and objectives and provide counsel to help clients understand how public relations can help achieve those goals.
The specific responsibilities of this individual will likely include:
-Contribute to the development and implementation of communications plans;
-Manage the activities of a public relations agency team;
-Draft and edit various communications materials, including news releases, key messages, Q&As, talking points, pitch notes, backgrounders, speeches and presentations;
-Manage complex approval processes for press materials;
-Prepare spokespeople for media opportunities through media and message training; and,
-Develop and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including team members and business leaders.
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations is ideal
-5 years of experience executing communications strategies;
-Ability to write documents that comport with AP Style guidelines;
-Experience implementing public relations campaigns;
-Comfort interacting with and providing counsel to senior leaders;
-Ability to be flexible and resilient while solving complex problems;
-Ability to manage sensitive situations;
-Ability to work with numerous stakeholders, drive for consensus and work within a close-knit and complementary team of communicators; and,
-Ability to work in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
Critical capabilities of this communications professional include the following:
-Develop thoughtful communications strategy and manage for quality execution that appropriately represents the work of the largest business operating in the Medicare space;
-Understand and optimize external communication channels, including social media;
-Understand complex subjects and translate them into compelling media angles and press materials;
-Juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; and,
-Demonstrate strong attention to detail.

- Corporate communications or PR Agency experience highly desired
- 2-3 writitng samples will be required
