The incumbent provides communications assistance to the business unit Communications Lead in the development and production of communication deliverables at the corporate and/or business unit level. The incumbent assists in the development of communication strategies and provides basic communications consulting to customers serving as support to the Communications Lead.
This position develops and executes communications activities including newsletters, web sites, videos, streaming media, employee meetings, displays, photographs, presentations, special events, cascades, etc. The position generally owns several communications vehicles and manages several non-repeating projects, both internally and externally, through completion. Additionally, oversees web content management for all business unit(s) web sites, including writing and content creation. Position coordinates event management activities, such as leader meetings, all employee meetings, etc. Assists the business unit Communications Lead as the communication focal point for the division(s) and deliver communications to employees and leaders. Typical internal customers include divisional employees and various contacts throughout the enterprise.
A Communications Lead and the Human Resources Manager typically direct the work of the incumbent. The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Incumbent impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, etc.
The incumbent is familiar with the company’s processes, systems and methodologies. Decisions made by this position are less routine and with intermediate risk issues. Challenges include meeting expectations in delivering results, considering alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions, and continuing to build communication skills.

College or university degree in communications.
Must be experienced in writing blogs and familiar with Caterpillar's Connections community.
Must have experience acting as a consultant with senior level leadership.
Must have experience working in a facility communications role (cannot just have corporate experience).
Must have experience leading an Employee Resource Group or Community Team.
Must have experience working with external media outlets (news stations, community publications, etc.).
Must have experience in Caterpillar branding.
Must have experience with the Caterpillar Foundation.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality and excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside of the department.
Excellent writing skills and experience.
The position requires knowledge of Caterpillar policies, practices and procedures. The incumbent must be familiar with the organization(s) being served.
In addition to the desired education, five years of job-related experience is typically required, a portion of that experience would preferably be as a business unit or corporate communicator.
