ATTENTION: THE CLOSE DATE OF THIS POSTING HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO 2-18-13 @ 5:00PM. This position supports the public relations function in the 11-county VDOT Staunton District. This position provides administrative assistance to senior district management concerning local issues and trends and assists with all district public relations business needs, action plans and deliverables.
The incumbent serves as an agency spokesperson to the news media, school and citizen groups. Editorial writing assignments include district employee newsletter, news release, project web text, award submissions, correspondence, speeches and presentations. Basic video and still photography work is required.
Event planning and logistical duties include project groundbreaking and ribbon cutting events, Adopt-a-Highway events, work zone safety events and meeting logistical implementation.
Data maintenance includes monitoring news stories and maintaining contact lists for various constituencies.

-Proficient skills in Microsoft Office software, desktop publishing and presentation software.
-Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, related field, or combination of training/related work experience preferred.
-Moderate skills to produce multimedia presentations for delivery by incumbent, senior management or gubernatorial appointees in a professional setting.
-Advanced journalism skills.
-Valid Driver's license required.
-Successful DMV check, references, work history, and fingerprint based background check required prior to employment.
-Will be required to work outside of normal work schedule during emergency situations which may include, but not limited to inclement weather, disaster response coverage, and emergency operations.
