WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule will average 40 hours per week for approximately twelve weeks. The pay for this position is $11.50 per hour ($5,520).
THE JOB : The successful candidate will be exposed to the day-to-day operation of the division related to current development, including site plan review, zoning compliance analysis, report preparation, staff and developer meetings. Additionally the successful candidate will be involved in any long-term planning projects, redevelopment studies or comprehensive plan amendments currently being prepared by the division.
DUTIES will include assisting the planning staff with current assignments, such as preparing zoning code updates, implementing the public engagement plan, developing mapping and databases, researching zoning issues and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be required to attend Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment or Council meetings in association with their project assignments. The successful candidate will assigned a specific planning or zoning project to be completed during the course of the internship that will include the preparation of staff reports and the presentation of findings at the appropriate public meeting.
REQUIREMENTS : The successful candidate must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree that is closely related to the work performed by the Community Development Department.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS : Coursework at an accredited college or university with a major in planning, land planning, architecture, landscape architecture, geography, urban design, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and proactive work ethic.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Appointment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation, proof of eligibility to work in the US and successfully passing a drug and alcohol test.
