Position Title: Community ESL Program—Assistant Coordinator (50% time)

Reports To: Community ESL Program Coordinator/Lead Teacher
Basic Functions: Assists with the non-credit community ESL program

This position will work with the diverse Community ESL program, which represents students from approximately 1/3 of the countries in the world. We strive to provide the best learning experience and the most welcoming environment possible. This position will provide instructional and administrative support for the non-credit Community ESL program at the Community College of Aurora (CCA) Lowry campus. Technical proficiency in basic office software and experience with data entry is important. Also, a strong commitment to helping the individuals whom we serve from the Aurora/Denver-area immigrant communities is a necessary requirement of the position. A strong emphasis on retention, recruitment and marketing initiatives will be instrumental in ensuring growth in the program and provide the ability to serve a larger part of this community. Dependability, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to providing superior customer service are vital to the success of this position. This is a 0.5-time (20 hours per week) position.

Specific Responsibilities :
Assist the non-credit community ESL Program Coordinator with the following:

Recruiting adult ESL students and publicizing the program to the community

Maintaining a networking list of organizations and individuals throughout the community

Communicating with these contacts at specific times throughout the year, to publicize the upcoming term’s classes

Placing newspaper and other print advertisements, and handling billing for paid ads

Distributing program flyers throughout the community at specific times throughout the semester

Attending meetings and networking events in the community as needed

Keeping office hours for the non-credit community ESL program and responding to student, faculty, and community questions and requests

Will include some evening and possible Saturday hours

Organizing and conducting student registration, including Banner and Access student data input

Handling and depositing tuition money collected during registration times

Maintaining records of student enrollment, attendance and testing

Creating each term’s computer lab student workshop schedule

Maintaining and updating program curriculum and supplemental materials

Organizing and participating in Aurora Language Center meetings

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

At least 2 years’ demonstrated experience working with Adult ESL programs or learners

Availability to work a flexible schedule, including early evenings and some Saturdays

Proficient in Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Access) and the use of email

Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field

Knowledge of and commitment to the Aurora/Denver immigrant communities

Experience managing a program, a project, or a business

Demonstrated ability to work independently

Experience working in a community college, including familiarity with administrative and instructional practices and procedures

Experience working with people from diverse language groups

Familiarity with Banner student information system

Interest in computers and the use of technology in ESL teaching

Interest in learning new technologies and training ESL teachers in their use
