NOTE: This position requires the completion of the Police Department Employment Application (not the General Government Application).

The Community Service Aide position involves responding to calls, dispatching, directing traffic at school crossings and performing other duties supporting law enforcement in a community involved and problem solving policing environment. Applicants must be able to work different shifts, weekends and holidays.

Supervision
Work is normally performed under the direct supervision of a police supervisor, but the employee must be able to work under minimal supervision. An employee in this class may be called upon to supervise persons involved in community service work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Ability to understand and execute complex written and oral instructions.
• Ability to get along with others and work effectively with the public and fellow workers.
• Ability to gain a thorough understanding and grasp of the application of constitutional law, statutory law, Village ordinances, technical police practices and procedures and department policies, procedures, orders, and regulations.
• Ability to learn and retain a thorough knowledge of the Village including not only its physical characteristics, but also its normal routine of events and the usual behavior patterns of its residents.
• Ability to exhibit courage, initiative, problem solving capacity, sound judgment and good human relations skills in coping with the numerous situations which may be encountered.
• Ability to demonstrate firmness, mature judgment and a fair, unbiased, professional manner in conduct when dealing with members of the public, offenders and other members of the criminal justice system.
• Willingness to participate in the accomplishment of the departmental goals and measurable objectives.
• Ability to answer the telephone and take information on requests for police assistance.
• Ability to dispatch officers to calls for service.
• Ability to learn to competently conduct investigations.
• Ability to learn to prepare written reports, records and correspondence in accordance with generally accepted police practices and departmental policy and procedures.
• Ability to testify professionally and credibly in court proceedings.
• Ability to learn to direct traffic and investigate accidents.
• Ability to learn to utilize forensic techniques including the use of hazardous chemicals.
• Ability to operate all department vehicles safely and efficiently under routine response conditions and for extended periods of time.
• Ability to learn to operate complex technical equipment such as various types of communications equipment, fax machines, computers, radar, vascar and other technology related to law enforcement.
• Ability to deploy Traffic Counter including set-up and removal, and daily monitoring.
• Ability to learn to provide first aid to the injured.
• Ability to learn to competently perform any other related duties and responsibilities, which may be subsequently assigned to this position.
• Responsibility to maintain high honesty, integrity and moral standards.
• Ability to be flexible with work assignments, days-off and duty hours.
• Performs any other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications
• A High School Diploma or a GED equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a licensed driver status in the State of Florida.
• Possession of good eyesight, including depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors.
• Ability to fluently speak, hear, read and write the English language. Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
• Ability to attend academy training program and successfully meet the academic leadership, general performance and physical ability standards of the training program. Ability to complete all required pre-academy testing.
• Ability to be flexible with work assignments, days-off and duty hours.
• Applicants must complete all requirements established by the Village of Pinecrest for employment. This may include, but is not limited to, a written examination, a psychological exam, a polygraph examination, a physical agility test, a comprehensive background investigation and a job-related medical examination including a drug screening test.
• Must be a non-smoker.
• The minimum requirements may be waived by the Village Manager.

BENEFITS:
The Village provides full-time employees with a comprehensive benefits package which includes a choice of healthcare and dental plans, life insurance equal to twice the annual salary, and short term and long term disability insurance coverage. Retirement benefits include a 401(a) Money Purchase Plan to which the employee contributes 7% of their annual base pay and the Village contributes an amount equal to 10% of the employee’s annual base salary with full vesting of the Village contribution after five years of employment. A 457 Deferred Compensation Plan is also available to all employees in addition to a Flexible Spending Plan. Leave benefits include two weeks’ vacation, 12 sick days and 2 personal days in addition to 11 paid holidays.
