The Compliance Specialist is responsible for designing and implementing components of the compliance monitoring program including forensic testing and data analysis procedures. The Compliance Specialist will interact with Compliance Department personnel and business units to design and execute monitoring program procedures, evaluate results, and develop and monitor action plans to address issues identified. The Compliance Specialist will also prepare periodic management reports summarizing monitoring program procedures performed and results.
1. Implements components of the compliance monitoring program, particularly the compliance monitoring of investment activities. This includes:
(a) working independently and/or with available team of compliance professionals, conduct recurring and ad-hoc compliance monitoring/examinations;
(b) designing and executing forensic testing/data analysis program procedures in support of compliance monitoring of policies and procedures;
(c) designing and maintaining data queries, reports, procedures, and controls to support the forensic testing/data analysis program;
(d) using industry knowledge and judgment, research, and escalate matters identified;
(e) developing remediation plans to address issues or concerns identified and monitoring to completion; and,
(f) reporting findings to supervisor and/or senior management and preparing periodic status reports or presentations on the monitoring program activities and results.
2. Working with the Senior Compliance Manager, implements necessary changes with regard to the compliance monitoring program, compliance policies/procedures/ manuals, training programs and business processes and systems.
3. Maintains records (or systems which maintain records) in support of compliance monitoring program requirements.
4. Keeps abreast of regulatory developments affecting the industry and compliance monitoring program activities in particular.
5. Assume additional responsibilities as requested. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree in accounting, law, tax, finance or securities and/or industry certification (such as CPA) a plus.
Minimum of 6 years industry-related compliance, audit or operational experience including demonstrated business analysis skills.
Experience with data analysis software (e.g., Spotfire, QlikView, MS PowerPivot) preferred.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and proficiency in MS Office (Work, Outlook and Excel).
Solid organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
Proven analytical skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of investment management operations, including the roles, responsibilities, processes, procedures and controls relating to investment department activity.
Knowledge and exposure to applicable investment management regulatory requirements, such as the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, and other rules and regulations affecting compliance functions.
