The Computational Research Physicist in the Radiological Sciences Department under minimal supervision, participates and leads in the area of computational physics research. Research interest include physical and radiation dosimetric characterization of advanced treatment systems including proton therapy, advanced treatment planning tools and techniques, new methods of localization, verification and adaptive therapy incorporating multi-modality imaging such as PET, CT and MR with the goal of improving therapy through a better understanding of dynamic patient and treatment processes. The position is specially focused on leading theoretical explorations of applied radiation oncology (RO) research challenges, through experimentation and scientific computing, including modeling. Applied experimental work with the physical systems of the RO treatment machines, including the proton therapy system and associated dose sensors and detectors is expected. Scientific computing duties may involve planning, designing, coding, validation, implementation, application and documentation of applications that support the clinical and research mission of the Division of Radiation Oncology and Department of Radiological Sciences. Works cooperatively with faculty and staff to further develop and transfer scientific methods and algorithms to address aims of pre-clinical, clinical and research projects and protocols. Identifies and solves problems and potential inefficiencies in the procedures and policies for data collection, transfer, analyses, and reporting of results in support of clinical and basic research projects, protocols, and grants. Coordinates with other areas within the Division of Radiation Oncology and Departments of Radiological Sciences and Information Sciences to provide associated deliverables required for the successful completion of development and maintenance assignments (e.g. data base development, custom software design, and integration of clinical and research systems).
