This is a fully competent position in which the incumbent works under close supervision to apply a broad working knowledge of computing/operating systems concepts, practices, and procedures to moderately complex assignments, equipment, and/or operating environments according to established procedures. Operates monitors and controls mini-computer consoles, associated communications systems, and peripheral equipment, including processors, tape/disk drives and printers. May also assist Help Desk in resolving and reporting operations problems.
REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work hours: Shift work (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), including weekends. On-Call 24/7, may be required to come in or dial-in to resolve issues. Will be required to take on additional and variety of assignments during the course of employment to meet business and customer needs.
Ensures all necessary data files are accounted for and available in order to initiate each processing task. May perform required equipment set-up.
Operates stand-alone and attached equipment to complete each processing task. Monitors progress. Operates equipment to perform tasks and monitors database systems in accordance with a schedule of operations.
Identifies systems hardware and software malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action as necessary to troubleshoot/resolve operating problems referring to established procedures and/or escalates problems to more experienced personnel within the department.
Responds to requests from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance.

Checks for outstanding replies iSeries alerts via qsysopr related to application, hardware, system and backup messages. Maintains scheduled reports of operations activities including trouble reports, logs, etc. Maintains daily logs, turnovers, and equipment malfunction reports.
Demonstrates knowledge of the daily operation and monitoring of the mid-platform systems.
Demonstrate knowledge of monitoring software such as Netcool, NetIQ and Sitescope.
Ensure quick response to monitoring tools alarms and a fast and accurate escalation to the proper group.
Demonstrate knowledge of operating system such as iSeries, Wintel, Unix and AIX. May be required to reboot and patch servers upon request.
Must possess basic knowledge of networking. Content switch interaction is required per request.
Strong analytic experience and troubleshooting skills are required.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalency. Associate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience is a plus.
