There are eight (8) positions available. PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO CURRENT UNIVERSITY OF UTAH STUDENT OR NEW INCOMING STUDENTS FOR FALL THAT HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH
Responsibilities
Assist students, faculty, and staff with technology related issues and basic research assistance. Duties include assistance with printing, scanning, MS Office, graphics applications, video editing, wireless laptop set up, and various forms of media. Employees also assist with audio-visual equipment, ADA stations, classrooms/labs, and hardware checkout. Employees must also be able to assist patrons with electronic journals, article databases, general library information, and basic research assistance. Employees must have the ability to function alone during non-peak hours.
Judgment / Decision Making: Individual judgment is crucial in supporting services and maintaining a professional atmosphere in the outer labs. If a function or service goes down, consultants must be able to locate and troubleshoot the problem and/or notify the appropriate person or group. Consultants must monitor the labs to ensure patron needs are being met.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of computer operations experience or equivalency required; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Previous customer service experience is preferred.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
Preferences
Basic knowledge of PCs and Macs, including experience with the Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, printing operations, using different forms of media, MS Office, multiple web browsers, plug in hardware, and familiar with various types of audio-visual equipment. Knowledge or experience in customer service, Linux, research assistance, scanners, and video editing preferred, but not required. Must be self-motivated, and be able to staff help-desks alone. Requires initiative in learning operating procedures to prepare for a wide variance of patron requests.
