Job Description

This is a fully competent position in which the incumbent works under close supervision to apply a broad working knowledge of computing/operating systems concepts, practices, and procedures for moderately to complex assignments, equipment, and/or operating environments according to established procedures. Operates monitors and controls midrange, mini-computer consoles, associated communications systems, and peripheral equipment, including processors. May also assist Help Desk in resolving and reporting operations problems.

Work hours: Shift work (12 hours), including weekends. On-Call may be required or to come in or dial-in to resolve issues. Will be required to take on additional and variety of assignments during the course of employment to meet business and customer needs.

Requirements

Monitoring tools will include but not be limited to the following: Netcool, NetIQ, Sitescope. What’s Up Professional and Big Brother

Demonstrate knowledge of operating system such as windows, UNIX, HPUX. Linux. May be required to reboot and patch servers upon request.

Ensure quick response to monitoring tools alarms and a fast and accurate escalation to the proper group.

Timely logging of tickets in incident management tools

Follow up with next level support for high severity incidents

Must possess basic knowledge of networking.

Strong analytic experience and troubleshooting skills is required

Knowledge of Ticketing Systems such as Remedy and Service Center are a plus.

24x7 Backup Console Monitoring

Level 1 support for backup and tape drive issues

Ensure quick response to monitoring tools alarms and a fast and accurate escalation to the proper group.

Timely logging of tickets in incident management tools

Follow up with Next level support for high severity incidents

Strong analytic experience and troubleshooting skills is required

Support Level 1 File Restores

Tape Media Management

Prepare Backup Reports

Knowledge of Ticketing Systems such as Remedy and Service Center are a plus.

Education and Experience Required

High School diploma or equivalency plus specialized training or an Associate degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent work experience

Two or more years of Data Center operations experience. 3-5 years progressively more responsible computer operations experience, demonstrating familiarity with a broad range of medium and large-scale computer systems, platforms, peripherals and standard operating procedures, including knowledge of scheduling and job processing languages
