Imagine has an opening for a Computer Specialist Technician supporting the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) in the Norfolk, Virginia area. The current work site is Naval Station (NAVSTA) Norfolk, but is subject to change to other locations in the Hampton Roads area.
The Computer Specialist Technician is responsible for assisting with design and implementation of local area networks (LANs) in a Navy training environment. The employee installs, maintains and operates LANs and associated computer hardware and software. Employee coordinates with the CSCS Infrastructure Readiness Support manager for the evaluation of training system networking needs and recommends improvements and modifications to existing infrastructure. Employee diagnoses and resolves complex local area network issues. The Computer Specialist Technician must meeting the following requirements:
Installs training LANs including network servers, hubs, routers, workstations, printers, and/or other peripheral devices.
Maintains training LANs, tracks significant problems, monitors performance, and performs upgrades to hardware and software as required.
Participates in long- and short-range technology planning.
Trains instructional staff to follow proper procedures necessary to operate the training LAN.
Develops and maintains documentation regarding training network installation, configuration and accreditation, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software.
Strong knowledge of LAN architecture (MS Windows Server 2003/2008)
Strong knowledge of computers, operating systems (MS Windows XP/7) and related technologies.
Strong knowledge of Navy infrastructure requirements and LAN components.
Considerable knowledge of LAN protocols and diagnostic tools.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of technology users.
Minimum of a High School diploma, plus the following IT certifications:
Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Security + REQUIRED
Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS)
GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC) or System Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
U.S. Citizenship required
Minimum Secret clearance required OR must be eligible to apply and be granted interim DoD interim clearance
Candidate must be able to lift heavy equipment up to 30 pounds, work on ladders, be able to pull cable in overhead, and perform other physical duties associated with LAN installations.
Some travel may be required (10% - 25%)
