The Office of Online Education extends educational outreach and access of University courses, degree programs, and research opportunities to the local and global communities in an effort to serve a diverse population of students who prefer or need alternative methods of delivery.

The Computer Specialist position provides skilled assessment of computer systems working with other UNLV departments and organizations in support of the Division Educational Outreach and Office Online Education. The position works directly with all Division of Educational Outreach staff in providing consultation and training in hardware and software issues. This position assists to ensure the technical success of the Division of Education Outreach in achieving daily operational goals.

Required skills: In-depth knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X operating systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other common desktop hardware and software technologies. Ability to provide training and user consultation for desktop and web based applications such as registration management, customer relationship management, and learning management software. Familiarity with networking and server related issues including NAS, Active Directory, Apache, IIS, and VMWare. Evaluate, identify, and apply appropriate security procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people on multiple levels of technical knowledge.

Useful skills: Familiarity with audio and video recording and editing equipment.

Other skills and attributes: Ability to multitask. Creative problem solving skills and the ability to perform highly detailed work in a sometimes fast-pace environment while maintaining a commitment to quality and accuracy. Ability to adapt to new and changing hardware and software. Ability to work within deadlines and prioritize tasks.

This position requires the possibility of working nights, weekends, and in emergency situations. Must be available to be on call.

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
