The NCSSM Division of Institutional Advancement functions to advance the educational mission of the institution through fundraising, public relations and relationship management activities. Examples of such activities include annual fundraising, cultivation of major and capital gifts, grant writing, alumni activities, parent programs, and community relations.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, this constituent relations role is primarily responsible for engaging alumni, parent, past parent and employee constituencies in the life of the school, providing a meaningful basis and positive climate supportive of the institution and consistent with the communications and development objectives of our strategic plan. This role serves as the primary professional liaison to the NCSSM Alumni Association, NCSSM Parent Council, ad hoc fundraising teams, and other support organizations. This role also serves as a member of the special events planning and production team.
Essential job functions include: 1) Planning and implementation of constituent relations programs for major constituencies such as alumni, parents, past parents, employees, and other segments as assigned, 2) Event planning and production, with primary, secondary or tertiary responsibility for dozens of special events, 3) Coordinating a large number of volunteers, 4) Collaborating closely with the development team to cultivate constituencies and individual constituents, 5) Collaborating closely with the communications team to plan and disseminate appropriate messages to constituents, 6) Remaining informed of constituent relations best practices and serving as an internal reference and advisor. Normal hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, but extended afternoon, evening and weekend work is required to be successful in this position. Regional overnight and same-day travel may be extensive at times. Office hours and working conditions are adjusted to accommodate changing travel and work requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
This role requires strong project management skills; analytical skills, written and oral communications skills; and volunteer management skills. The role requires excellent interpersonal communication abilities, a constituent services orientation, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community. Discretion, integrity and professional conduct must be upheld at all times. The role requires self-motivation, superior leadership and organizational skills, the ability to work independently with minimal direction and minimal administrative support, and an ability to work well and collaboratively with others. The ability to work flexibly and handle multiple tasks is essential as is attention to detail. Working knowledge of popular social media platforms such as Facebook and office productivity software, such as MS Office and Google Docs, is required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in the humanities and experience working in education in the areas of development or constituent relations, or applicable non-profit constituent relations or fundraising experience working with a diverse constituency.
