Job Description Summary
Pike Industries is looking for an intern to work in the field for the 2013 summer. Through an organized and structured process the selected intern will be exposed to and trained on many aspects of our business operations. The summer will be broken into three segments of 3-4 weeks each where the intern will be paired with an experienced employee to learn about each of the following areas; paving/construction, plants/crushers, and quality control.
While working within a paving/construction capacity the selected intern will learn about the how construction and paving jobs are set up and run. The intern may assist with duties such as; manual labor, use of hand tools, directing and guiding traffic through construction sites, and possibly operating equipment.
While working within a plant/crusher capacity the selected intern will learn about how the aggregate and asphalt material is produced and distributed within our own company as well as with Pike’s customers. The intern will participate and gain hands-on experience while learning about the operations of our plant/crusher division.
While working within a quality control capacity the selected intern will learn about the process of conducting tests on asphalt and aggregate materials to determine mix make up as well as composition and consistency with required specifications. The intern may also be provided with additional training and explanation of the process of monitoring temperature, thickness, density and overall condition of pavements during installation.
- Be enrolled in a college degree program
- Be eager and willing to learn about and become familiar with the various construction processes
- Have the ability to follow directions
- Have strong attention to detail while executing the necessary process
- Must have reliable transportation
- Previous experience working in road construction is preferred but not required
This position will be based in the Belmont, New Hampshire area but travel to multiple Pike facilities and job sites will be required. This position may be required to work extended hours with possible night and/or weekend work as well as overnights. It is essential for all applicants to have a valid driver’s license. This is a summer, hourly position.
