Project Management - Applications

The purpose of the Project Management team is to promote and advance a standardized methodology and toolset for the planning, execution, transition and evaluation of multiple IT projects within EP Energy. As part of that mandate, our goal is to provide transparency into EP Energy’s IT investment and insure that these investments are on time, in budget and within scope to our internal customers. Managing these projects with integrity and due diligence is critical to the PMO organization.

The Consultant, Project Manager will facilitate the utilization of PMO framework, change strategies, processes, tools and tactics that help to ensure the success and effectiveness of IT initiatives. This person will work with project teams, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective transition from the current state to the future state. The Consultant, Project Manager will be accountable for working with various stakeholders to define and implement projects that are on time, on budget and within scope. This person will also provide project management coaching and support to other project managers and team members. This individual will play a lead role in managing projects as well as programs within the IT organization.

Position Knowledge Requirements

Strong knowledge of current theories, applications, and best practices in project management and problem solving

Fundamental knowledge of performance improvement, high-performance teams and group dynamics

Proven experience managing client relationships and expectations

Experience leading projects and programs (programs consists of multiple projects or work-streams) and are large scale and complex in nature

Specific Duties

Key project management activities will include:
Project Initiation & planning, execution and completion of multiple IT projects

Project Stakeholder alignment

Provides bi-weekly project status updates to Business Sponsors, IT Business Solutions Leads, PMO leaders

Develop and manage detailed project plans (including time tracking, scope definition, project risk, resource loading, testing, training etc.), gathering business requirements, user acceptance training and testing, assist in business process improvements and reporting requirements as defined by the Corporate IT PMO thru MS Project Server 2010

Serve as a steward for and ensure conformity with IT project management methodology and standards

Managing and resolving scheduling, budgetary and resource conflicts as required, escalate as needed

Identify and document risks to project and escalate to Business Sponsors, IT Business Solutions Leads, PMO leaders (e.g. scope, scheduling, budgetary, resource)

Identifying and requesting required resources both internal and external

Provide ongoing project change control

Project Steward for budget management; providing all requested budget information and updates; maintain an accurate budget at all times and insuring that all expenses against project are valid and recorded correctly

Provide leadership in the area of project management to IT leaders, PM’s and internal customers

Develop communication plans and have strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Help build and share project management knowledge, skills and competency at business and functional levels

Assist in the development, documentation and roll-out of project management standards, best practices and tools at both a project and company level

Qualifications

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

10-15 years experience in Project Management; with 5-8 years experience managing programs

Outstanding interpersonal skills, diplomacy, empathy, and tact so as to build rapport and trust-based relationships and interact effectively with staff, management, and vendors at all levels

Ability to drive results

Ability to communicate effectively to all audiences and organizational levels

Ability to influence stakeholders toward desired end results

Ability to lead small initiatives and complex, large scale company-wide projects

Flexibility and adaptability in ambiguous or changing situations

Ability to manage workload with little guidance

Project management skills(PMP)

Strong IT SDLC knowledge

Problem solving and analytical skills (Continuous Performance Improvement methods/skills a plus)

Strong written and presentation skills along with associated skills in the MS Office suite (specifically MSPS 2010)

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Information technology, Engineering, Business Management or related discipline is required

Certified PMP is required; must have been certified for a minimum of 5-8 years

Minimum of 10-15 years experience in Project Management capacity for both moderately-sized and large scale initiatives

Demonstrated ability to build credibility with project stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast, complex environment that is changing

Strong project management experience and skills including: budget management, project planning, scope management, status reporting, stakeholder alignment and overall execution against project plan

Experience in managing change and adoption related to large-scale systems and/or business process implementations

Experience in the energy industry is preferred

Certifications in Lean Six Sigma or Agile are preferred
