Content Development Specialist acts as a project lead and works with internal editorial and technology teams to establish tools and methodologies to be used for production and ongoing maintenance of internal and external training. This position develops and maintains content for internal and client-facing applications and tools and creates documentation management plans.

Job Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Determine documentation requirements and appropriate strategies needed to effectively convey the information to users by studying programming specifications and directions, experimenting with software and interviewing subject matter expert both outside and inside the company.
  • Research, write, edit and maintain context-sensitive help pages, in-depth user and technical guides, system administration guides, instructor-led and self-directed training guides, and other learning and support aids.
  • Create e-learning materials including video tutorials and interactive training modules.
  • Develop and maintain style guides.
  • Maintain best practices in accordance with industry standards and STC (Society for Technical Communication) recommendations, including topic-based techniques.
  • Train and mentor team members on tool usage and technical writing practices.


  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, journalism, communications or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years in technical writing with at least 2 years utilizing RoboHelp, MadCap Flare (or other XML-based HAT), MS Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills appropriate for technical and non-technical end user client audiences at all levels.
  • Experience researching and gathering relevant technical data from subject matter experts such as product managers, business analysts, developers and end users to prepare technical and training documentation is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn, use, and effectively explain software applications in a single-sourced, topic-based style.
  • Superior interpersonal and general business communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a cross functional team. Must be methodical, creative, organized and self-directed.
  • Demonstrated success working in an environment driven by budget, scope and deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Previous experience with video-capture software such as Camtasia or ScreenFlow, and e-learning software such as Articulate, preferred.
  • Previous experience in course development and / or e-Learning preferred.
